NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) – The mood in New York industrial companies has surprisingly brightened significantly in February. The Empire State Index rose compared to the previous month by 8.6 points to 12.1 points, as the regional central bank of New York announced on Tuesday. In January the index value was 3.5 points. Analysts had only expected the indicator to rise to 6.0 points on average.
A level above the zero line indicates economic growth. The sentiment indicator is now in positive territory for the eighth month in a row after it fell to a record low of minus 78.2 points in April due to the Corona crisis./jsl/jkr/fba
