The move is just a precautionary measure, the government of the Chinese Special Administrative Region announced on Wednesday. Fosun Pharma, which sells the vaccine in the financial metropolis and in Macau, had previously announced that packaging defects had been found in a batch of vaccine, which were related to the closure of the bottles. “BioNTech and Fosun Pharma have found no reason to believe that product safety is at risk,” said the government.
It was not immediately clear how many units were affected, but it was stated that use of the affected batch and one more had been suspended. Vaccinations and the production of the vaccine in Macau were then interrupted, said the Ministry of Health in Macau. Fosun Pharma did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Ultimately, BioNTech shares rose 6.05 percent to $ 94.05, while Pfizer shares rose 0.20 percent to $ 35.62.
