PASSAU (dpa-AFX) – The traditional rally of the CSU on political Ash Wednesday is to take place digitally this year because of the corona pandemic. “Instead of the 10,000 guests in the Dreilnderhalle, Political Ash Wednesday will be realized as a studio production under strict hygiene measures,” said CSU Secretary General Markus Blume of the “Passauer Neue Presse” (PNP / Friday edition). “The largest get-together in the world with 10,000 participants, this time it takes place virtually.” In Passau itself, only Bavaria’s Prime Minister and CSU leader Markus Sder and Blume himself are said to be. “It stays with Passau because the spirit of this place, the genius loci, cannot be replaced by anything,” said Blume. The concept, however, is that instead of letting fan buses drive to Passau, you send fan packages home.
The Greens also rely on the Internet according to PNP information: Their political Ash Wednesday with Greens boss Annalena Baerbock and Bundestag Vice-President Claudia Roth as well as the Bavarian parliamentary group leaders Katharina Schulze and Ludwig Hartmann should therefore be streamed online from a studio in Munich’s Muffathalle.
Traditionally, the parties have a political exchange on Ash Wednesday, to which, under normal circumstances, many political celebrities from Berlin travel to Bavaria. The event of the CSU in the Passau Dreilnderhalle is considered the largest meeting. Ash Wednesday falls on February 17th this year.
As early as December, the CSU announced that political Ash Wednesday – depending on the Corona situation – should at least partially be relocated to the Internet./bsj/DP/mis
