Netflix in-house production: Films: The most expensive Netflix film production of all time starts in autumn | message

Netflix recorded 192.95 million subscribers worldwide in the second quarter (Q2) 2020, reports the US streaming service provider in its financial report Q2 2020 and was able to convince around ten million new subscribers. On the one hand, this may be due to the exit restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, on the other hand, popular films and series that are exclusively offered are also attracting new subscribers.
In-house production is the key to high subscriber numbers
In order to be able to keep up with the competition from Amazon Prime & Co., streaming service providers do not rely on the occurrence of a pandemic, but convince (potential) subscribers with the best possible offer. A popular means here is working with well-known actors or directors.
In the past, for example, high expenses for in-house productions such as ‘Extraction’, ‘6 Underground’ or ‘Bright’ paid off for Netflix and led to rising subscriber numbers, reports futurezone.
New Netflix blockbuster: film adaptation of ‘The Gray Man’
Therefore, according to The Hollywood Report, Netflix will soon start another in-house production: The most expensive Netflix film of all time. ‘The Gray Man’ is being made into a film with directors Joe and Anthony Russo and is the story of two serial killers who chase each other around the globe. It is based on a novel by the US bestselling author Mark Greaney. The two killers are said to be played by Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans.
The two hits ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and ‘Infinity War’ can already be attributed to Joe and Anthony Russo.
Hundreds of millions of dollars in production
The reason why a Netflix subscription is not free can be seen in the planned production costs of ‘The Gray Man’. The film, the production of which – if the pandemic allows it – will probably start this fall according to futurezone and could be available at the end of next year, apparently costs the streaming service provider more than 200 million US dollars.
It’s not the first time that Netflix has digested so deeply for its own production: significantly more has been spent on series. For example for the most expensive and very successful series ‘The Crown’, for which Buckingham Palace was even rebuilt – according to futurezone around 130 million dollars per season.
So if this new blockbuster with the Russo brothers, Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans is also successful, more expensive ‘The Gray Man’ Netflix action thrillers could possibly emerge in the future: Greaney’s novel is part of a nine-part book series so far.
