BERLIN (Dow Jones) – The chairman of the medium-sized and economic union of the CDU / CSU, Carsten Linnemann (CDU), expects the question of the candidacy for chancellor in the Union to be resolved soon. “The schedule is set: between Easter and Whitsun,” said Linnemann in the ARD morning magazine. The decision between the CDU chairman Armin Laschet and CSU boss Markus Sder will be made “more towards Easter than towards Pentecost”.
At the same time, Linnemann stood behind the North Rhine-Westphalian Prime Minister Laschet. He governs with a majority of one vote and has broadly positioned the party. Laschet shows “a clear profile in domestic politics too, I trust him to do it,” said the CDU politician.
With a view to the Union’s falling polls and the recent setbacks for the party in Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Wrttemberg, Linnemann emphasized: “The situation is really serious.
