FRANKFURT (Dow Jones) – The European Central Bank (ECB) operates according to the words of its President Christine Lagarde no policy of yield curve control. The ECB ensures favorable financing conditions, but it does not measure these conditions with a single indicator, said Lagarde. “We take a holistic approach.”
Bloomberg had reported, citing informed persons, that the ECB had target limits for the spread of government bond yields between the strongest and weakest countries. Lagarde conceded that government bond yields were an important benchmark, but said at the same time that the ECB was also paying close attention to corporate and private loan rates and terms.
