BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – In view of the planned expansion of corona tests, the health insurance companies insist that the state should bear the costs. “Extending the tests as part of the fight against pandemics definitely makes sense,” said the spokesman for the umbrella organization of statutory health insurance funds (GKV) to the German Press Agency on Friday. As a state task, tests in this context would also have to be financed by the state.
“We are legally obliged to fund the series tests in many cases first,” said the spokesman. How much the total cost would depend on how their number evolved. “With a cost of 59 euros per test, it is obvious that we will probably talk about a huge sum in the end,” he said. “Of course, we will press for the financial advice in autumn that the statutory health insurance will be reimbursed these costs from the federal budget.”
Soon, significantly more people than previously will be tested for the Sars-CoV-19 coronavirus in Germany. In concrete terms, Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) has announced that preventive tests in hospitals and nursing homes will be possible. Symptom-free contact persons for infected people should also be entitled to a test./ted/DP/jha
