BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – The health insurance companies could in future be prohibited from advertising on gangs and jerseys in top and professional sport. A corresponding approach from the Federal Ministry of Health has alarmed representatives of clubs and associations. As the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” reported (Saturday), the commitment of the cash registers in sport is to be restricted more according to a draft of the ministry.
According to “FAZ”, the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) wants to defend itself against it. He calls for the relevant passage to be deleted from the regulation. “This jeopardizes existing health partnerships between sport and statutory health insurances, destroys years of constructive cooperation and makes sport economically sensitive,” the newspaper quoted from a DOSB letter to MPs.
The major health insurances are currently funding sports associations and clubs with several million euros. The Federal Social Security Office, as the supervisory authority, has found that statutory health insurance funds now spend less on health care than on advertising. In the previous year, the law had already created the basis for restricting the advertising measures of statutory funds.
According to Paragraph 6 of the draft bill, these should continue to be permissible at sporting events if the information about the services of the fund concerned is “in the foreground” or if it is about the “implementation of a preventive measure”.
The German Handball Federation, whose national team is heavily financially supported by the AOK, considers the plans of the Ministry of Health to be wrong. An advertising ban would affect the sport at all levels, said DHB CEO Mark Schober of the “FAZ”. The money from sponsoring the national team is used to develop the sport. One can convey that it is about prevention and health.
The CDU member of the Bundestag Frank Steffel even fears that similar restrictions could apply in the future to advertising by municipal companies or savings banks in sports. “This would be the beginning of a debate that I do not want,” said the head of the Bundesliga handball team Fchse Berlin of the “FAZ” ./ hc / DP / edh
