Berlin (Reuters) – According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the number of new corona infections in Germany is falling compared to the previous week – but only slightly.
The RKI reported 17,561 transmitted positive tests within 24 hours on Wednesday. That is more than on Monday and Tuesday. But compared to the respective days of the previous week, the value is slightly lower. The number of corona deaths has risen again, to 305 within one day. This means that a total of 833,307 people in Germany have been proven to be infected, and 13,119 people have died from or with the virus. The values for the number of intensive care patients and the number of deaths change with a time lag compared to the number of new infections, because severe disease usually only occurs two to four weeks after infection. Around 546,500 people are considered recovered.
According to the RKI, the so-called seven-day incidence has also fallen again. According to this, an average of 138.9 people per 100,000 inhabitants were newly infected in Germany in the past seven days. This is the third decline in a row. Since October 30, the value has been above 100. However, the new value is still far from the target of the federal government and the federal states. You want to push the seven-day incidence back below the 50 threshold. Chancellor Angela Merkel and the 16 prime ministers argue that only then will the chains of infection be tracked by the health authorities. If the value does not drop significantly towards 50 by November 25, further corona measures should be imposed.
