The Corona issue will most likely also determine February. If the tightened lockdown adopted at the end of January shows an effect in the fight against the virus, easing can be expected again from mid-February.
Lockdown through February 14th
On January 19, 2021, the new lockdown regulations were discussed and announced. These promise that the lockdown has been extended subject to stricter measures. This should now last until February 14, 2021.
Accordingly, it is expected that the corona measures will relax somewhat from mid-February, provided that the pandemic can be better controlled by then.
Bavaria and Baden-Wrttemberg plan to relax from February 1st
Schools across Germany are also to remain closed for face-to-face teaching until February 14th. However, Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Sder plans to reintroduce alternating classes – a hybrid of virtual and face-to-face teaching – for the final classes from February 1, 2021.
This affects around 2.3 percent of all students who will be taught in small classes at school again from February onwards.
Meanwhile, Baden-Wrttemberg’s Prime Minister Winfrid Kretschmann is planning to partially open the daycare centers and primary schools again, provided the Corona situation allows.
Lower Saxony starts vaccination program
The corona vaccinations are slowly picking up speed: After the elderly in nursing homes in particular had been supplied with the vaccine against the corona virus since the beginning of the year, over 80-year-olds who are not in homes will also be available in Lower Saxony from February 1 live, be vaccinated.
The first priority group in Lower Saxony includes around 800,000 people. In addition to those over 80, medical professionals and nurses will also have access to the vaccine from February 1, 2021.
WhatsApp withdraws new data protection rules
Far from the regulations related to the corona pandemic, WhatsApp announced that it would put the mandatory approval of the new data protection and usage rules planned for February 8 on hold for the time being.
The pressure and resistance from WhatsApp users was so great that the Facebook subsidiary was forced to withdraw the changes planned for February for the time being. On May 15, 2021, the group will try again with a revised agreement.
Online purchases with credit cards
Since January 15, 2021, consumers have to confirm online purchases paid for by credit card with a purchase value of EUR 250 or more with a TAN due to the “two-factor authentication” that is now required. From February 15, this price threshold will be reduced to 150 euros per transaction.
One month later – from March 15th – “two-factor authentication” will apply to all online purchases.
Disney + releases content for adults
The Disney + streaming portal, which is designed for family-friendly content, will expand its product portfolio considerably from February. The “Star” service belonging to the group will be implemented as a new division in the streaming service from February 23.
Disney will in future make series and films available to adults through Star, which viewers can only access via a security PIN.
