BERLIN (Dow Jones) – In the future, business travelers should be able to check into hotels completely digitally without physical contact. According to the Federal Press Office, they identify themselves using a smartphone with a newly developed “ID wallet”. The federal government’s pilot project is also the first application in the new “ecosystem of digital identities”, within the framework of which the Chancellor Angela Merkel talks to companies on Wednesday.
Virtual check-in is therefore possible at Deutsche Bahn AG, Lufthansa AG, Robert Bosch GmbH and BWI GmbH. These provide their employees with digital proof of their company’s billing address, while Bundesdruckerei provides proof based on the identity card. The partners Steigenberger Hotels AG / Deutsche Hospitality, Motel One GmbH and Lindner Hotels AG are involved. “We will only be successful if the state and business work hand in hand and we are ready to cut off old threads,” declared State Minister for Digital Affairs Dorothee Br (CSU).
The Federal Government is striving to enable more digital proof of identity within the framework of the EU requirements. A total of 16 companies, including 7 Dax companies, are working on building the identity cosystem. Further applications are to be presented on Wednesday at the meeting with Merkel.
