DORTMUND (dpa-AFX) – The police in Dortmund are gearing up for a larger demonstration against the state restrictions to contain the corona pandemic. The organization “Quermachen-231” registered the event for Sunday under the motto “Festival for Peace & Freedom – Safeguarding our Basic Rights”, the police reported on Friday. Around 1500 participants are expected in the city center. It is not yet entirely clear “what kind of audience comes together,” said a spokeswoman.
For the police operation, infection protection will “play an outstanding role”, especially in times of the currently rising number of infections nationwide, emphasized the head of operations Udo Tönjann. If hygiene or distance regulations are disregarded, “we will intervene decisively and consistently”.
Last weekend, thousands protested against the corona restrictions in Berlin. The police broke up the rally because many demonstrators did not obey the rules of distance or wear masks. The initiative “lateral thinking 711” called for the demonstration under the motto “The end of the pandemic – freedom day”. The violations of the participants against the Corona requirements were heavily criticized. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier had spoken of “irresponsibility”.
Two events against state corona requirements are also planned in Stuttgart on Saturday. 500 participants each were registered with the city for a demonstration and a rally./wa/DP/fba
