WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) – The criminals behind the latest cyberattack on the largest gasoline pipeline in the United States are believed to be living in Russia. There is strong evidence of this, said President Joe Biden on Thursday. Moscow was not involved in the attack. “We do not believe that the Russian government was involved in this attack,” said Biden in the White House. The USA had asked Russia to take action against the perpetrators and such cyber attacks and blackmail attempts.
Blackmailers had paralyzed the pipeline of the operating company Colonial last Friday with a hacker attack. The pipeline came to a complete standstill, causing gasoline bottlenecks in parts of the country. Biden stated that the pipeline should be in full capacity again on Thursday, after which the bottlenecks should dissolve in the coming days./jbz/DP/he
