KARLSRUHE / KLN (dpa-AFX) – The ARD broadcasters will file a complaint about the broadcast fee with the Federal Constitutional Court this Friday. The ARD announced this at the request of the German press agency. In addition to the constitutional complaint, an application for an interim order is also submitted. “With the urgent procedure, a preliminary decision could be made until the constitutional complaint has been decided.”
The ZDF has already filed a lawsuit at the Federal Constitutional Court, including an urgent procedure, as a court spokesman confirmed on Friday. The ZDF wants to act against the failure of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt to approve the state treaty, which provides for the increase of the broadcasting fee to 18.36 euros on January 1, 2021. Deutschlandradio also wants to sue, and with it all public broadcasters.
Saxony-Anhalt blocked the adjustment of the broadcasting fee from 17.50 euros to 18.36 euros this week, as Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) withdrew the bill from the state parliament in Magdeburg before the vote. Because all federal states without exception have to agree, the State Treaty cannot come into force. The radio license fee is the main source of income for ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio./rin/DP/eas
