BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – Within one day, the health departments in Germany sent the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) 20,200 new corona infections. That comes from numbers from Sunday morning. The highest level was reached on Friday with 29,875 reported cases. The number of cases recorded is usually lower on Sundays, partly because fewer tests are carried out on the weekend. Last Sunday the number was 17,767.
The health authorities also reported 321 new deaths within one day. The previous high of 598 deaths was also reached on Friday. The trend in the number of daily deaths had recently gone up, which was expected after the steep increase in new infections. The total number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 21,787.
In total, the Robert Koch Institute has counted 1,320,716 proven infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic (as of December 13th, 00:00). According to estimates, around 967 900 people have now recovered.
According to the RKI situation report on Friday, the nationwide seven-day R-value was 1.11 (previous day: 1.03). This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 111 more people. The value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection rate subsides./liz/DP/nas
