WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) – Since US President Joe Biden took office almost two months ago, 100 million vaccine doses have been administered in the United States. “We achieved our goal of 100 million vaccinations in just 58 days, weeks ahead of schedule,” White House Corona coordinator Jeff Zients said in New York on Friday. Biden had set the goal that in his first 100 days in office – i.e. by the end of April – 100 million vaccine doses should be injected nationwide.
The USA has a population of around 330 million. According to the CDC health authority, around 116 million doses of corona vaccine have been administered since the vaccination campaign started in mid-December. A good 75 million people received at least one dose, around 41 million are already fully vaccinated.
In the USA, in addition to the vaccines from Moderna and Biontech (BioNTech (ADRs)) / Pfizer, in which two doses are injected, the vaccine from Johnson & Johnson (JohnsonJohnson), which unfolds its full effect after just one dose, is also used. The vaccine from the manufacturer AstraZeneca has not yet been approved in the USA.
Biden has promised to have enough vaccine for all 260 million adults in the country by the end of May. From May 1st at the latest, all states should also allow vaccination appointments to be made for all citizens who are at least 16 years old. So far, risk groups have mostly been preferred when making appointments.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, US authorities have reported nearly 29.7 million confirmed corona infections and around 540,000 related deaths, according to data from the University of Johns Hopkins. Biden has been in office since January 20th.
