From December 07 to 11, the BITconf 2020 was held. One of the most important events in Latin America since it brings together experts from the crypto ecosystem and Blockchain technology. During this year it was carrying out its eighth edition. Today, we summarize the most outstanding presentations of laBITconf 2020.
It is important to mention that, over the years, the event has managed to position itself as one of the most anticipated in Latin America by crypto enthusiasts. In fact, it has established itself as the cradle of entrepreneurship.
The event featured the participation of many well-known personalities in the crypto industry. Which were offering different topics of interest throughout the lectures. Despite the fact that this year was totally different, given the COVID-19 pandemic, the BITconf 2020 was still interesting, despite having developed in a totally virtual environment.
Here we leave you a summary of some of the important presentations during this eighth edition.
Thoughts on Digital Money by Andreas Antonopoulos
The main stage after welcoming theBITconf went to Andreas Antonopoulos and his thoughts on digital money. Antonopoulos expressed during his participation that Bitcoin is the global money of the Internet generation.
Which does not belong to any government and does not play politics. He emphasized that he does math instead. It is controlled by mathematical rules rather than political organizations.
That makes it neutral, and because it is neutral it makes it open and offers an escape from traditional monetary systems. Especially in places where traditional money is broken.
He added that Bitcoin is digital and because it is on the internet and because it can move across borders very easily it is a very practical escape from the traditional system. He also commented that it is not necessary for people to understand what Blockchain is in order to use Bitcoin.
The three crypto pigs
Another interesting topic that could be enjoyed at this event was the presentation of the three little pigs. Which was in charge of Giacomo Zucco. Who is a Bitcoin enthusiast, entrepreneur, and educator.
Zucco compared the three crypto pigs to forms of digital money during his participation at laBITconf 2020. First, it was e-gold. The second, carried many names, such as: DigiCash, HashCash or B-money, for example.
A totally ideal and simple explanation to explain to the little ones, and even to those who have no knowledge at all of how the world behind the main cryptocurrency on the market, Bitcoin, works. The recreation through the children’s book written by Joseph Jacobs was represented by an Avatar.
How to install a Bitcoin node and why should you?
Another of the most outstanding presentations was that of Julian Dragonosh, who explained how to install a Bitcoin node and why it should be done.
To begin with his presentation, Julián commented that a node is each of the parts that make up the Blockchain network, interconnected, working in an equivalent way and sharing information with each other.
After a brief introduction, the speaker went into a technical tutorial for the installation of a Bitcoin node, telling us that the basic requirements currently are:
250 GB of free space on the hard disk, computer with a recent version of Windows, Mac OS or Linux, 2GB of RAM, Internet connection with a speed of at least 50 kilobytes per second, have the latest version of the Bitcoin Core wallet installed.

Old but beautiful: Bitcoin and Ethereum
Continuing with the coverage of laBITconf 2020. There was a panel led by: Anthony Di Iorio, Brock Pierce, Charlie Shrem and Rodolfo Andragnes, called: «Old but beautiful». In it, they talked about the benefits and transformation that the main cryptocurrencies in the market have provided to the economy.
The panelists expressed that since 2008, cryptocurrencies have opened a different alternative for investment and business. They also highlighted that cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, allowed many to think of the digital age as their “income salvation.” Without them being affected by external situations.
One of the most anticipated presentations was that of the creator of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, who held an unpublished interview, conducted by Andreas M. Antonopoulos. During it, they discussed how the launch of Ethereum 2.0 has been and the entire trajectory of Ethereum in general up to the present.
During the interview, Buterin said that the Ethereum network has suffered periods of great congestion on several occasions over the years, due to the various applications and related traffic.
In this sense, the creator of Ethereum, Buterin, commented that the project has presented several updates and the last one was Ethereum 2.0. Which assured that it proposes a scaling solution that greatly increases the number of transactions per second.
To culminate with our summary of this great event, and the most outstanding presentations, we summarize a little what was another great participation, how was that of the CEO of Binance, Changpeng Zhao.
In it, he expressed that he was very happy and honored to have been invited to the conference and to share the history and strategy of the world’s largest exchange, Binance.
During his participation, he revealed a bit about his history, who he is, and how he managed to grow Binance. He commented that he was born in a “little town” in China and was there until the age of 12, specified that at that time he had lived in four different cities. Before moving to Canada, a country in which he lived in four different cities in 10 years.
The panel ruled that now there is a unique opportunity to improve the freedom of money. Since, at present, money does not have much freedom, therefore, from Binance they are convinced that cryptocurrencies are a good way to increase financial freedom.
