If you’re a soccer fanatic or fanatic, you may definitely be intrigued by what David Beckham, Ethereum, and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) may have in common. Surprisingly more than anyone would think, especially since Sorare stepped into the equation and created an alliance with PSG that ties all of these factors together.
Sorare signs alliance with PSG and tokenizes its players
Blockchain-based fantasy game Sorare has signed a license agreement with French team Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). With this alliance, Sorare can now tokenize the club’s past and present players such as David Beckham, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.
Announced on Tuesday, Sorare also said that it is launching its platform in beta for users in the United States. This country is Sorare’s second largest market by its user base, according to CoinDesk.
The official deployment of the platform in the country follows a license agreement with the MLS Players Association signed mid-June this year.
Sorare uses the Ethereum blockchain to mint digital business cards representing professional soccer players. The digital cards can be collected, exchanged by users and also used to participate in the platform’s weekly competitions.
Users also have the option to buy tokens for other players to improve their team and depending on the performance of footballers in real life, they can receive rewards in more trading cards or ETH.
Under the licensing agreement signed with soccer club PSG, Sorare will also be granted the rights to tokenize some of the club’s ‘legendary’ players as of 2013, including David Beckham.
According to the statement, Sorare’s full deployment to the US «comes in response to significant demand from market users«, And it could help the platform to acquire more license agreements with soccer teams in the country.
While the platform has registered an overall reach of about 40,000 users worldwide since its launch in March last year, its monthly active users (MAUs) stood at 5,891 last month, according to data shared by Sorare.
Then, the world of soccer and blockchain have never had so much in common as now. It is from these alliances that new interesting projects and never before thought are achieved. Will this be the first of many advances? We will see.
