Burger King’s curious announcement about accepting Dogecoin (DOGE)
Through an announcement on its social networks, Burger King Brazil assures that it is accepting the cryptocurrency Dogecoin. For those of you who don’t know, Dogpper is a bone-shaped dog biscuit that, according to the restaurant, tastes like their classic Whopper burger.
According to the official site, the service has been available since last Monday. However, they point out to users that they should check availability in their region. Burger King Brasil also recommends the maximum purchase of five Dogppers per order due to availability.
The product, launched three years ago, was part of a campaign intended to attract dog-loving customers. The proposal was that both pets and their owners should enjoy the popular flavor of a Whopper, the chain’s flagship product.
Apparently, Burger King Brazil has found a good way to start accepting cryptocurrencies as a payment method, specifically Dogecoin. For now only in the case of their Dogppers dog biscuits.
Will the company fully adopt other cryptocurrencies?
It is not yet clear if the acceptance of Dogecoin, to buy Dogpper, could be a sign that Burger King plans to accept cryptocurrency soon. The sale of Dogpper by DOGE is a limited offer, however, it is not exclusive for holders of the cryptocurrency as the chain also accepts payments in reais, the official currency of Brazil.
It is not the first time that the fast food restaurant ventures into the universe of cryptocurrencies. In 2017, they announced the launch of a token at Burger King in Russia, based on the Waves platform. The Whoppercoin circulated among those who acquired a whopper. Currently the cryptocurrency no longer exists.
